EARLY VERNON MUSEUM TOUR
Two options, A or B. Each option consists of three stations.
Option A:
Content ~ Each class is divided into three groups, with each group participating in the following activities:
- A self-guided tour of the “Metamorphosis of Vernon” that reinforces the material covered in “The Beginnings of Early Vernon” classroom presentation. As well, students will have the opportunity to explore more pioneer artifacts that are on display.
- The “Pioneer Box” guessing game where students are introduced to artifacts used during pioneer times. This is a great hands-on learning experience.
- A visit to “The Wayside Press” shop where museum volunteer, Bodo Niedbala, will demonstrate how to set up lines of print, print a proof copy and finished copies, and melt down the lines of type for reuse. Each student will receive a personalized sheet, hot off the press, at the end of the demonstration.
Cost ~ No Charge
Length ~ Approximately 90 minutes
Grade level ~ Grade 3 and up
School to provide ~ at least 3 adult supervisors
Option B:
Content ~ Each class is divided into three groups, with each group participating in the following activities:
- A self-guided tour of the “Metamorphosis of Vernon” that reinforces the material covered in the classroom presentation, “The Beginnings of Early Vernon”. As well, students will have the opportunity to explore more pioneer artifacts that are on display.

OR

- The Downtown Walking Tour is an excellent follow-up to “The Beginnings of Early Vernon” classroom presentation. Students discover exciting remnants of early Vernon as they explore the downtown area. Historic photographs are referred to throughout the tour for “then” and “now” comparisons. The early stages of Vernon’s development unfold as the tour progresses.

Length ~ A minimum of 3 hours
(This is a two-part tour. While half of the class is on the walking tour, the other half is in the museum with Discovery Sheets in hand. They will also see the print shop demo OR play the “Pioneer Mystery Box” game. Halfway through the morning, the groups switch places.)
Grade level ~ Grade 3 and up
School to provide ~ at least 4 adults to assist with supervision.
Students: Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Even on sunny days in May and June, there is often a cool breeze in certain downtown areas. Bring a snack and water.
