VERNON & DISTRICT HERITAGE FAIR
A PROJECT OF THE GREATER VERNON MUSEUM & ARCHIVES
HERITAGE FAIR GUIDELINES
- The Fairs program emphasizes the importance of the learning process, the exchange of stories, and the value of multiple perspectives.
- All projects must have a Canadian theme – history, geography, heritage, or culture - on a local, provincial, national, or international level.
- Projects should involve research at a museum, library, archives, interviews and/or Internet ~ but NOT copied!
- All sources must be cited.
- Projects must not contain offensive matter such as profanity, racial/sexist remarks, innuendo, negative stereotypes, or any other potentially offensive matter.
- Students must be registered with the local Fair organizing committee.
- Although it is recognized that teachers or other adult supervisors might have provided assistance, all submissions must be produced by the student.
- As much as possible, teachers should ensure that projects are historically correct.
- Students must be present to interpret their displays at scheduled times during the day(s) of the Fair.
- During the Fair, projects are the responsibility of the participants. The Vernon and District Heritage Fair Program is not responsible for any projects lost, stolen or damaged while unattended.
- Students may prepare projects as individuals or in partners. However, for projects to be considered for REGIONALS or PROVINCIAL must be completed by an individual student.
- All projects must have a title.
- Projects from all disciplines are encouraged (eg. poster, poem, 3-D displays, models, painting, speech, play, Powerpoint, etc, and must be free standing).
- Project boards must not exceed 80cm deep, 150cm wide and 100cm high, commercially produced display boards are the correct size.
- Students are responsible for their own equipment, including extension cords and computers.
- Living artifacts, (eg. plants, animals, people, etc.), are not allowed to be displayed as part of a project.
- Students can dress the part or in period costume based on their topic.
- Due to space constraints, the number of projects per class/school may be limited by the Fair committee.
- The program is noncompetitive in nature, with an emphasis on the importance of the learning process and the exchange of ideas. Projects may be nominated to go on to the OkanaganRegional Heritage Fair to be held in May. Students will be notified within two weeks of the Vernon & District Heritage Fair.

By entering the Vernon and District Heritage Fair, parents are considered to have provided consent…
- for their child to be photographed and the child’s projects and materials to be photographed and referred to in any Heritage Project promotions related to the Fair. Parents not wishing to have their child photographed or having their projects used in such promotions are advised to make their request in writing to local Fair organizers, at least two weeks before the Fair date.
