VERNON & DISTRICT HERITAGE FAIR
A PROJECT OF THE GREATER VERNON MUSEUM & ARCHIVES
THE HERITAGE FAIRS PROGRAM
What is it?
The Heritage Fair is an opportunity for students in grades 4 – 10 to celebrate and appreciate Canadian Heritage!
What do students do?
Students can get involved through the completion of a classroom assignment or home project. Students select and research an aspect of local, regional, provincial, or national history and then communicate their findings through a poster, panel, model, painting, etc.
The students' research projects are the "heart" of the Fair. Examples of projects could include research on your school, an early Vernon pioneer, Tim Horton’s, The Bay, symbols of Canada, the apple industry or the gold rush to name a few. Anything, as long as it has a Canadian theme - Ideas to get you started.
What happens at the Fair?
The Fair is a celebration of Canadian Heritage! Students participate in a one or two day Fair featuring judging, some entertainment, and showcasing their work for their family, friends and community. They also have the opportunity to be nominated for participation in the Okanagan Regional Heritage Fair.
How does participation benefit students?
Participation in the Fair provides opportunities for students to further develop literacy skills – reading, writing, listening, researching, and communicating. It gives them the opportunity to share their own ideas and voice, building creativity and initiative.
