"GUIDING & SCOUTING IN THE NORTH OKANAGAN "
SEPTEMBER 11th, 2010 TO SPRING 2011


This exhibit acknowledges the founding of the Girl Guide movement in Canada in 1910 and the subsequent formation of scout groups in the North Okanagan region in 1913.  In support of the exhibition, registration for both scouts and guides for the 2010/11 season will be taking place at the Vernon Museum on Saturday, September 11th, 2010.

Registration times are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Additional children's activities will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A campfire in Spirit Square (behind the museum) will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 





"POSTES CANADA POST "
SEPTEMBER 24th TO SPRING 2011

Working with the Heritage Club of Canada for Retirees of Canada Post, this exhibit outlines the history of Canada Post with a focus on the corporation's activities in Vernon beginning with the community's first post office run by Vernon pioneer, Luc Girouard, in the late 19th century. 





"THE COLDER SIDE OF THE SPORTING LIFE"
FALL 2010 TO SPRING 2011

This exhibit celebrates winter sporting activities in the North Okanagan by encompassing the history of organized and unorganized winter sports that have taken place in the region for the past century. Downhill and cross-country skiing, curling, ice-skating, hockey, and other activities will all be showcased with artifacts, photographs, and text. The exhibit will be located at Vernon's Wesbild Centre, the new home of the Vernon Museum's Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame.
