Vernon Museum’s Education Department offers elementary and high school students a series of classroom presentations, museum tours, and historic walks focusing specifically on the Early History of Our Area. These programs look at the “Lifestyle of the Interior Salish People”, the “History of the Fur Trade in British Columbia”, the “Early Settlement and Growth of Vernon & District”, the “First Post-Glacial Inhabitants of the Okanagan”, and “Present Day Natural History”.
Through the use of artifacts, photo images, and archival materials from the museum’s collection these presentations help to bring our unique local history to life, and add an extra dimension to any related units of study within the school curriculum.
